About World Remix
World Remix (https://mapmelt.com) was created around a deceptively simple question: What if you could redesign the world?
Inspired by the tactile curiosity of classic printed world atlases and the playful immediacy of independent web experiments, World Remix invites players, students, educators, and geography enthusiasts to explore real-world cartography, demographics, and vexillology through creative remixing rather than rote memorization.
Our Cartographic & Editorial Principles
- Real Data, Zero Fabricated Figures: Every polygon boundary in World Remix comes from public-domain Natural Earth cartography (
datasets/geo-countries) supplemented by EPSG/PROJ onshore island coordinates for sovereign microstates. Every population and land area calculation uses verified World Bank World Development Indicators (Reference Year 2023). When a territory has no reported World Bank figure, we display Unavailable rather than inventing numbers. - Respect for Official National Symbols: Real national flags are displayed unmodified in their authentic designs using public-domain Wikimedia Commons renders (
hampusborgos/country-flags) andlipis/flag-icons. Fictional flags generated during gameplay are deterministically synthesized and explicitly labeled as fictional game creations. - Lightweight, Self-Contained Architecture: World Remix runs entirely in your browser using clean HTML5, CSS3, SVG cartography, and modular vanilla JavaScript, requiring no user accounts, no invasive tracking, and no server-side database.
Educational & Creative Value
Whether you are testing how many island nations it takes to match the land area of Madagascar, comparing population densities across continents in the Daily World Challenge, or exporting a high-resolution PNG Charter of Japrazil to share with friends, World Remix turns global statistics into an interactive playground.
